Christmas Books for Kindergarten
With so many Christmas books out there, how do you know which are the best for your class? Here I will tell you about my favorite Christmas books for kindergarten! Use the descriptions to decide which books are right for you and your class!
Llama Llama Holiday Drama by Anna Dewdney
Llama Llama and his mother spend a lot of time getting ready for Christmas and little Llama does not like waiting! Kids love the rhyming and sweet nature of these books! This was my son’s favorite Christmas book last year, we had to read it every night before bed! This is also an easy book for kiddos to catch on and read with you!
The Polar Express
Most children know and are amazed by the Polar Express story. They may have even been on the Polar Express Christmas train! A young boy goes on a magical journey to the North Pole where he will make his Christmas wish! You could even gift your students a surprise Christmas bell after hearing this story! Just tie a little red ribbon loop at the top of the bell.
The Night Before Christmas – Little Critters by Mercer Mayer
Love, love Little Critter books! These are a classic. This book takes a fun “Critter” twist on the Night Before Christmas poem. Plus, kids love the detail of the illustrations in these books!
Bear Stays Up by Karma Wilson
If you love the Bear series, you will love Bear Stays Up too! In this adorable story, Bears’ friends try really hard to wake bear up and get ready for Christmas! The ending has a really cute twist that the kiddos just love! You can read more about the publisher, Simon & Schuster and Karma Wilson’s books here! They also have a free e-book offer!
Pete The Cat Saves Christmas
Who does not love Pete the Cat?? Pete The Cat Saves Christmas does not disappoint! Santa become sick and calls Pete the Cat to save Christmas! I love how Pete always has a positive attitude, no matter what happens!
If You Take A Mouse To The Movies
Every book in this series by Laura Numeroff I absolutely LOVE! If you love If You Give A Mouse A Cookie, or any of the books with his friends, this one will be a fabulous addition to your Christmas book collection!
Santa’s Stuck
Aren’t kids always wondering how Santa makes it up and down the chimney? Santa’s Stuck keeps kids on the edges of their seats waiting to hear what will happen to Santa!
Merry Moosey Christmas
All Rudolph wants is a Christmas Eve off to put his feet up! Santa looks for a replacement for Rudolph and his red nose, but it is not that easy! Find out if Rudolph gets his wish and Moosey is able to lead Santa’s sleigh!
Merry Christmas Splat
Splat the Cat and Seymour are back for Christmas! In this Splat book, it is the night before Christmas and Splat is wondering if he has been “good” enough to get the big present he wants! Needles to day, he tries REALLY hard to be good in the last few hours before Christmas arrives. There isn’t a Splat book I don’t enjoy!
Memoirs Of An Elf
Have you ever heard of the book, Memoirs Of A Goldfish?
If not, this book is entertaining for every age group, even adults! In Memoirs Of An Elf, it is Christmas Eve and Spark, the elf, has an important job to keep Santa on time! This proves to not be an easy job as there are too many intersting things at each house! Can Santa make up the time? Find out!

This is a classic, with a bunch of great spin-offs! The Gingerbread Man is also a great book to practice retell and other comprehension activities!
