Hanukkah Activities for Kindergarten
Happy Hanukkah! Almost ☺️.
During December, I spend a lot of time teaching about Hanukkah! There are so many Hanukkah activities for kindergarten that are wonderful in supporting your Hanukkah-themed week or centers!
Getting Started
Before the holidays begin, I send home a small project for families to complete with their children. I do this for three reasons:
- I get a solid idea of my student’s holidays and family traditions (you never know what a five-year-old may say 🤣).
- This is a great share and discussion activity to encourage conversation, turn-taking, and learning from one another.
- A small home-project encourages family involvement and parents feel more included!
You can read more about this activity in my post, 3 Tips For Teaching About Holidays In Kindergarten. The project can be found using the image below!
If you are looking for some fabulous books go accompany your Hanukkah activities, my post HERE talks about my favorite books I like to use with my kindergarteners for Hanukkah! There are also book links in case you need to find them last minute!
Here are my 6favorite Hanukkah activities for kindergarten! All center activities require little direction from me, so I am able to support my class in various ways during center block!
Let’s jump right in!
Top Hanukkah Activities for Kindergarten
Ten Frame Activities for Kindergarten
Ten frames, ten frames, ten frames!
If you have been following my blog posts, you may have noticed that I include ten frame activities in EVERY SEASON! One of the reasons I do this is because ten frames are a fantastic visual for young learners and they use ten frames to visually “see” numbers. Ten frames are a way to build a strong number sense foundation and they will also help with more difficult skills than counting – addition, subtraction, decomposing numbers, etc.
This bundle is available in my TpT store and I continue to add more themes! Since this activity is repeated throughout the school year, I don’t have to continually teach it. This makes center management and planning so much easier.
Spin A Sight Word
My kiddos love using the paperclip to spin a sight word! Students are able to practice reading, writing, and spelling sight words. If you would rather not give your kiddos paperclips, there are clear spinners available that can be used for a number of activities!
Sight Word Sentences
Students can use their creativity to come up with a seasonal sentence using the sight words given. This is editable so any six sight words can be chosen!
Sight Word Board Games
Kids love board games and they are perfect for learning social skills like turn-taking and rule-following! I can choose the sight words I want my kids to practice and the board will populate with those certain words.
Most of my sight word activities are editable, meaning enter the words once and the words will populate throughout the document. It makes planning and prep so easy! I actually have 16 themes of board games that I use so these board games are so easy to manage and implement all year!
You can check out more editable sight word board games HERE!
Write the Room
Just like ten frames, we “write the room” often as well! Writing the Room is a fantastic way to keep your kiddos moving while learning during the holiday season! We all know they have a little extra energy this time of year! 😊
Below you will see ten frames, dot cards, sight words, and Hanukkah words write the room activities!
