Editable sight word games are my JAM!
Every single sight word activity I do with my kiddos is EDITABLE! This means that I can choose the specific sight words that we are currently working on and populate them into the activities.
WHAT!?
Yes, ALL sight word activities are editable so they can be customized to whatever sight words you are working on. This also makes it easy for differentiation because you can use the same activity just different sight words! Great for teacher evaluations.
This is EXACTLY what I love editable sight word games and why all of the sight word activities I create are editable. Why limit ourselves!
Why Is Learning Sight Words Important?
Approximately 75% of the words in children’s books are sight words! Knowing sight words “in a snap” helps children to direct more of their brainpower to decode other areas of the text and focusing more on comprehension, INSTEAD of decoding a word that may not be decodable! In addition, learning sight words in kindergarten can also help children develop confidence and thrive as readers.
How To Use Editable Sight Word Game Files
Using editable sight word activities is simple! All you need to do is input the words that you want to use, and they automatically populate throughout the entire document! Finally, print and prep the activities. So simple!

Roll and Read Sight Words
Kids love rolling that jumbo cube and are learning cooperatively while doing so! In my centers, there is one cube for each group. So the students are practicing rolling, recording, and passing the cube to the next person. Yes, students are working to share, work together, and have patience!
Also, I like switching up the look of the recording sheet. Same activity and directions, just a different look.
Below are the jumbo cubes that I use! The listing comes with three cubes.
Spin and Write Sight Words
All students need is a paperclip and pencil for this! My students love this activity so much they keep a paperclip in their workbox for activities like this! Not sure what it is about a paperclip, but it works!
With each activity I try to include student directions, that way, if students “forgot” how to do the center, I can simply tell them to ask a friend or check the instructions!
Sight Word Memory
Sight word memory is beneficial for both sight word identification and learning to work together! Plus, most students already know how to play memory!
Sight Word Sentences
Kiddos choose a sight word from the box above (that you chose for them), and construct a sentence around it! Work on that neat handwriting as well!
Bingo Dabber Activities
I don’t always have bingo dabbers handy, but so many other tools work for this! Some ideas:
- Bingo dabbers
- Markers
- Stickers
- Stamps
- Twistable crayons
- Highlighters
- Mr. Sketch
- Colored pens

Sticker Book Activity
Sight word sticker books are the PERFECT activity for parent volunteers or helpers! The instructions make the task clear for any adult helping with this activity, and it takes the job off of your shoulders. In our school, we are encouraged to invite parents into the classroom to help with class activities. Each morning during arrival, I have a parent volunteer come in the class and help out with the sight word sticker books. They love this!
I place all materials needed for this activity in a basket:
- Leveled sticker books, several of each level
- Class checklist
- Pen
- Small stickers
The stickers below are perfect for these books! There are so many sticker options, it keeps the books fun!
Write the Room Activities
Writing the room is an activity we do in the classroom OFTEN! The biggest reason being, my kids love it and they are engaged the whole time. The second reason being, my kids are getting to move around while learning. I also make sure my recording sheets are differentiated to reach all my kiddos!
Sight Word Board Games
Cooperative learning and sight words go together like PB & J! Anytime I can implement an activity for my students to work and learn together, I do it. One thing that isn’t apparent enough in our curriculum is students working together cooperatively. So I need to make my own opportunities.
In this board game, students use any type of manipulative that fits as a “player” on the board, and a die or two. Students will roll, move that many spaces, and read the sight word they land on. If they read the sight word correctly, they stay on that spot. If they don’t they stay where they are and don’t move forward. There are different versions of each theme so the game boards look different!
Sight Word Story Search
When students are learning sight words, it important that they can recognize and read sight words in isolation, but it is SO critical that they can read them in context! This is why I created Sight Word Story Search.
Have you ever wondered why students will know sight words from the rote flashcards but will not be able to recall the sight word when reading a book? These children are not yet able to identify that sight word in context, which is a legit struggle for some kiddos!
Children need an opportunity to practice sight words in context, not just in isolation. There are so many ways to solidify sight words knowledge, I will be sure to go in depth about this in another blog post!

Sensory Bin Kit
Some of the most difficult parts of sensory bin implementation are the gathering and preparation of the bins, aligning activities to curriculum and standards, and then the storage of all the materials. I have heard your struggles and been in the trenches with you! This is why I have created the Ultimate Sensory Box.
The Ultimate Sensory Box is the complete sensory bin toolkit that helps preschool and kindergarten teachers teach state standards while remaining developmentally appropriate and adding more opportunities for students to learn through play. Each box contains 16 intentionally-planned and creative activities along with everything that is needed! The only item not included is the sensory bin itself.
