St. Patrick’s Day Crafts For Kids
Hey, hey!
It is almost St. Patrick’s Day which means that we are knocking on springs door and isn’t that just an amazing feeling?
I LOVE St. Patrick’s Day crafts for kids for so many reasons – rainbows, gold, luck and of course leprechaun tricks! Do you set leprechaun traps to catch that sneaky little guys? Our first grade classes create leprechaun traps and it is so fun to check them out! It gives our kindergarteners something else to look forward to the following school year.
This month I have been working to compile my favorite St. Patrick’s Day crafts for kids that are perfect for your students and also EASY and fun to do with your own kiddos at school or at home! Also, these are great for a variety of ages.
Plus, crafting is EXCELLENT for building fine motor skills!
These crafts I purposely grouped together because they are easy to create. Also, I included the FREE template that I used to create the pot of gold craft. Be sure to read the entire post and grab the freebie template below!
Let’s jump right into business!
Pot of Gold Craft
To create this craft, I made a pot shape on card stock to use as a tracer, cut a strip of paper to use as the handle, and cut approximately one inch strips of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple paper. This is a fun activity to teach kids the colors of the rainbow.
I wanted to tie this activity to writing, so I had my students complete a little writing activity to glue on the back.
In the image below, you will see that I hung the pots-o-gold from the ceiling to create a festive atmosphere for St. Patrick’s Day! You will also notice little pieces of yellow paper glued on the pot. This is the year I had my students “free-cut” gold coins to glue on the pot, which is great practice. There are so many ways to create a simple pot-o-gold!
Rainbow Craft
This craft is a hit! Kids love clouds and the do think they are made of cotton! I included a tutorial below on how I created this cloud shape in Powerpoint. Again, like the pot of gold craft, I just cut one inch strips of construction paper (rainbow colors).
Stretch out the cotton balls to make them larger and glue the cotton balls on the cloud.
If you want to tie in academics, student can write on the rainbow. See some ideas below!
- Color words
- Something they feel luck about, one word
- Word family words
- Number words
- and so much more!
Think about what topics you are currently learning about, and tie this craft to it!
See…simple! If you have any further question about this cloud tutorial, just send me an email at amanda@sparkinginprimary.com, message me on Instagram @sparkling.in.primary, or send me a message on Facebook.
Shamrock Paper Tearing Craft
Create a simple shamrock shape, and print it onto card stock! All kiddos need to do is tear the green paper, and glue it on the shamrock. This is fantastic fine motor practice!
St. Patrick’s Day Painting
Sponge painting to be exact! I don’t know a single child that doesn’t enjoy sponge painting, or painting in general. I use the same shamrock shape from the previous paper tearing activity to make prep easier! If you plan to do both, just print two sets!
In the image above, you will see me using a clothespin and pom pom to paint the shamrock. This is because I want to add in a fine motor strengthening skill! Rather than a pom pom, you can use a cotton ball (especially if you have them from the cloud craft), it will provide the same benefit.
