Sensory Bin Ideas For Spring
In the springtime, there are so many seasonal items that are PERFECT to use in a sensory bin!
In this quick blog post, you will gain ideas for materials and learning activities that you can do with your kiddos this spring!
Let’s jump in!
Egg Ice Melting
The temperatures are beginning to get warmer (where I am at least!) so ice is the perfect way to stay cool!
In this sensory bin activity, I used an Easter jello mold, froze water with a tiny drop of food coloring, and placed the frozen eggs in a bin. The tools I gave my kids to use to try and melt the ice was a paintbrush, toy hammer, and a cup of water. Through learning by discovery, they figured out that by putting the ice in the cup of water, it would “get smaller” or melt. This was so beneficial for them!
This is also a great activity to do outdoors!
Tip: I do any type of activity that my kids can get wet or messy in the morning while they are still in PJs. That way, when they are done, I just change them into their clothes for the day!
Sensory Bin Planting
My kids have a blast with anything that resembles real life!
My son came to me and asked for his sand, little cups, and he went into the cabinet to grab pumpkin seeds.
Then, he planted them! Most amazingly, he did this totally on his own.
I love it when he gets an idea and I let him run with it.
Spring Sensory Bin Craft
The pom-pom bunnies and chicks craft I found as a package at Target, but that is not the only option! Simply putting some crafting materials in a bin with a large filler like Easter grass, will do the trick. You can show your child some ideas of crafts they can make with the given materials (creating a Pinterest board is fantastic for this) or let them “free” craft! Kids’ imaginations are amazing!
Plastic Easter Egg Activities- Mini Eraser Counting
Inside each plastic egg, I hid various quantities of mini erasers and placed them in the bin. The bin consists simply of blue Easter grass and the plastic eggs. THAT IS IT. If you do not have mini erasers handy, any small objects, like, Legos, Shopkins, mini marshmallows, chocolate chips, Cheerios…ANYTHING SMALL! The more creative you are, the more fun it will be.
My kiddos dug the eggs out of the bin, opened the egg, and counted the mini erasers inside. This is a fun way to practice counting!
Water Beads & Easter Eggs
The Easter Bunny created this bin for my kids. They were SUPER excited on Easter morning to find that the bunny not only left them a basket filled with goodies, hid plastic eggs, and left them a fun sensory bin to play with! Plus, this helped to keep them occupied while I picked up the house.
Name Building
We are learning the letters in our names and I thought adding the magnetic letters to a sensory bin would make it that much more fun!
I found chick buckets at the Dollar Tree, added some Easter grass and magnetic letters. Also , I wrote each name on a card to give them a template to follow. This can also be done with sight words, seasonal words, numbers, and the alphabet!
