Fall Sensory Bins
Hey there! 🤗
I hope you are enjoying the start of fall! The weather here is starting to drop to about 40 degrees at night, I am so not ready for this!
Fall sensory bins are one of my most favorite fall center activities! I love seeing my kiddos “dig in” to fall sensory bins and play and explore various textures while….wait for it… LEARNING!Â
Why not mix sensory play with fun fall textures and themes!
I went to our local Dollar Tree and Target Dollar Spot on the hunt for some fun and unique sensory bin items. It is amazing how many ideas I can find at Dollar Tree and Target when I am on a mission and focused!
Below I will show you fall sensory bin ideas that are aligned to the common core and that are engaging math activities for young learners!
Fall Sensory Bins
Leaves
Above I used fabric fall leaves that I found at Dollar Tree. If you do not have a dollar tree nearby, Amazon has these leaves as well!
Fabric leaves are durable and have a really neat texture! Real leaves are a great alternative! I just chose the fabric leaves because they last longer. All I did was fill the bin with the fabric leaves and hide the cards.
My own kiddos ended up getting a little silly with the leaves. Good thing that they are easy to pick up off of the floor!
Hay
I found spools of “hay” at the Target Dollar Spot and cut it up into about six-inch pieces. The same hay I found afterward at the Dollar Tree. Also, the artificial acorns I found at the Dollar Spot and I added them for a little extra fun!
Cut Ribbon
Cut ribbon is such an easy sensory bin filler! I found this ribbon at both the Dollar Tree and Target Dollar Spot. The ribbon is cut into about 4-inch
pieces. The smooth texture makes for a fun sensory activity!
Shredded Paper
Shredded paper is such an EASY sensory bin filler! It can be found almost anywhere and comes in so many different colors! I like to used various colors of shredded paper for each season. In this bin I used brown shredded paper I found at Dollar Tree, and added some sparkly (can you tell I love sparkles?!) fall accents to dress it up a bit!
Other Fall Sensory Bin Fillers
I found a couple of other items in my own home fall decorations that I could use in another sensory bin as well! Bins of pinecones are a large, fun filler or accent! Also, gourds is a great sensory bin filler or accent! Fall decorative accents are a great addition to any sensory bin filler to make the bins more fun!
For some more fall ideas, a couple of weeks ago I posted about fun, fall math activities for kindergarten. Read about the fall math activities here!
Sensory bins are my LOVE! Here I posted my sensory bin master guide! This is a fantastic resource for any teacher implementing or wanting to implement sensory bin centers in the classroom.
Sensory Bin Kit
Some of the most difficult parts of sensory bin implementation are the gathering and preparation of the bins, aligning activities to curriculum and standards, and then the storage of all the materials. I have heard your struggles and been in the trenches with you! This is why I have created the Ultimate Sensory Box.
The Ultimate Sensory Box is the complete sensory bin toolkit that helps preschool and kindergarten teachers teach state standards while remaining developmentally appropriate and adding more opportunities for students to learn through play. Each box contains 16 intentionally-planned and creative activities along with everything that is needed! The only item not included is the sensory bin itself.
You can view the Ultimate Sensory Box listing on Cratejoy here!
